Manchester United have finally announced that they would be signing Harry Maguire from Leicester City for a whopping signing fee of £80m. This would make Harry Maguire the most expensive defender in history toppling the previous record holder, Liverpool’s Virgin Van Dijk, who many believe is one of the best defenders in the world currently. The signing fee has sparked quite a debate and many are slamming Manchester United for overpaying the star player.
Even though many believe that the fee is above par, there is no question that Harry Maguire is an exceptional player and he has shown that on numerous occasions for Leicester City as well for the England National Team. Fans of Manchester United would definitely be excited with the transfer of Harry Maguire to the team. Since the departure of Nemanja Vidic back in 2014, Manchester United have been lacking a strong defender in their team. Maguire has the potential to be one of the best signing for Manchester United in recent years.
The Manchester side gave away 54 goals in the last season. Their main rivals, Liverpool and Manchester City conceded only 45 respectively. Therefore, the signing of Harry Maguire could bring back that confidence in defence and might relieve some of the tension on the goalkeeper, David De Gea, who hasn’t been at his best ever since the World Cup last year.
As always it is difficult to tell how well a player will do next season but as the season kicks off Maguire’s impact will soon become clear.
